Vice-President, Associate, Trustee
David is a Vice-President with BDO Canada Limited and manages the Newmarket (and surrounding areas) Financial Recovery Services office and the Peterborough (and surrounding areas) Financial Recovery Services office.
With over 20 years of experience in the insolvency profession, having practiced with the firm in Toronto, North York and Markham before taking charge of the Newmarket and Peterborough offices, David works with individuals who are experiencing financial distress with a view to developing strategies and to finding constructive solutions to address their problems and concerns.
David has extensive experience with small to large business involving a variety of industry sectors and he has acted on behalf of all stakeholders involving such engagements as business viability reviews, bankruptcies, receiverships and restructuring proceedings under The Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act.
David was involved in insolvency engagements including:
- Trustee and Receiver of Lichtman’s News Agency (one of Toronto’s oldest book and magazine retail chains)
- Trustee of One + One Fashions (a national retail store for women)
- Receiver and Manager of Sniderman Radio Sales and Service Limited (cob Sam the Record Man)
- Court appointed Receiver for Travel Distribution Resource Group, Inc. (cob Travel Plus)
David is a past member of the Board of Directors for the Ontario Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals.

Administrator & Counselor
Kendra Laing is the Senior Insolvency Administrator for BDO Canada in the Peterborough office. Kendra also travels and meets with people at the BDO office in Lindsay.
Kendra was born and raised in Peterborough and is familiar with the challenges and issues people in the community face. Kendra attended Adam Scott C.V.I. and then went on to study Legal Administration at Fleming College.
Prior to joining BDO in 1999, Kendra worked for a law firm in Pickering, which specialized in family law and real estate matters. This work experience has allowed Kendra to bring another skill set to her job here at BDO that allows her to work with her clients and deal with the challenges that they are facing as they solve their financial problems.
Having experienced family difficulties while raising a teenage daughter, Kendra is very aware of the many challenges we face in our daily lives and how easy it is to find yourself in a struggle where you need to seek the professional advice and help of others, like the Peterborough team of BDO. Kendra is there to listen and offer solutions to some of life’s most difficult decisions.

Administrator & Counselor
Shelley Barker is one of the Insolvency Administrators at the Peterborough location of BDO Canada Ltd. Born on Canada’s east coast, which is well known for its friendly people and its emphasis on community, she now fondly calls Peterborough her home. Having moved to the area at 13 years of age, she attended Thomas A. Stewart Secondary (TASS) and Sir Sandford Fleming College (SSFC).
Shelley received a Business Administration diploma from SSFC and began working for BDO in May 2008. She furthered her education through the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP), which is the recognized Association for all Insolvency Professionals. Shelley completed the Insolvency Counsellor’s Qualification Course and obtained her Financial Counselling Certificate by April 2009, then completed a two year course to become a Certified Insolvency Administrator in April 2011.
Currently married with two grown sons, Shelley is familiar with many of the issues we all face today, which can often cause financial struggles. Having experienced divorce, job loss, and high debt, she overcame those obstacles and may well be uniquely qualified to help you to identify the best solution for your situation. You will find her friendly and easy to talk to and her empathetic approach to your struggle will leave you with a plan and a sense of accomplishment.
